November updates featuring a chilly breeze

Glasgow

Went to Glasgow to see Jack! We have been online friends for years and years at this point-- a chance mutual connection that I don't keep up with nearly as comprehensively. The only other time we've met in person before was when we were both in Amsterdam (and yet both of us are American ???). Anyways it is a marvel we have spent no actual time together ... until now!!!

CD haul from the flea market + one I got from Monorail

I've collected CDs for ages now and been complaining almost as long that my car doesn't have a CD player... and then my little brother asked "what is that button" and I realized it does, in fact, play CDs. Sooo the collecting is about to go off the charts. Saw so much Coldplay but was feeling X&Y in particular. I personally believe the Coldplay golden era stretches from Parachutes to Ghost Stories... this has always been the album in that array I have spent the least time with so I'm eager to revisit. The other three finds I am a lot less historically convicted about but am so excited to dive in!!! I have decided whenever possible I will conduct a little game of blind buying local CDs and this time it was The Big Two by Usurper. The label that put it out is actually based in Cork! Upon listening when I got home: this is great and made me laugh out loud. Not ideal for car listening but some very rich (very silly) soundscapes, and prompted research into a really cool duo. Untitled (I) through Spittle Bugs is unlistenable in a way that I am impressed by.

A compilation of diary entries:
Matthew is playing piano-- some jazz something. He's reached a point he can't seem to get exacctly right, so he's going over it again and again, a curious upward melody, shifting slightly each time towards resolution. Jack is poking around for a misplaced stack of posters and preparing to move the bed. "I'm actually so confused," she says. Rumble rustle rustle. The flat is three weeks moved into. There is so much love here. Sitting on the desk is a fresh made to dry boquet from Ali down the street, one perfect orchid in the center. Rooibos tea and a stack of books on queer theory. Whistling from Matthew, singing from Jack. They both move and speak quickly, with music. After the flatwarming party there are three new rings on the coffee table. Proof of life.
